Overview

Ecotalk operates as a telecommunications provider managing SIM provisioning, usage reporting, and recurring billing. As the business expanded, manual billing workflows and fragmented processes began to constrain revenue predictability and operational efficiency.

Flowmoco partnered with Ecotalk to modernise its billing and account management infrastructure. The engagement focused on replacing manual triggers with a deterministic, automated billing engine supported by secure integrations and self-service capability.

The result was a fully automated usage-based billing platform designed for scale, transparency, and commercial control.

The Challenge

Telecom billing requires precision and cadence. Usage data flows continuously, and invoicing must reflect real consumption without delay or inconsistency.

Previously, billing events were triggered manually. Usage data required human intervention before invoices were raised. In some cases, customers were underbilled and later corrected in lump sums, creating friction and undermining trust.

Finance teams lacked real-time visibility into performance. Customer support absorbed avoidable billing queries. The structure of the system placed people at the centre of a workflow that demanded automation.

Ecotalk required a platform capable of ingesting usage data frequently, calculating charges accurately, and issuing invoices automatically with minimal operational intervention.

The Solution

The platform was rebuilt from first principles using a modern, modular architecture.

A structured data layer was implemented to manage usage records, customer tiers, and billing logic with clear permissions. Business rules were encapsulated within application services to ensure consistent and auditable charge calculation.

Usage data ingestion was automated at regular intervals, enabling near real-time billing calculations. Secure integrations were introduced for payment processing and SIM lifecycle management. Automated invoice generation was implemented with secure storage and retrieval.

Customer and administrative self-service portals were introduced to provide visibility into usage, invoices, and account management. Role-based authentication ensured secure access across user types.

Open-source technologies were selected to reduce licence exposure and improve long-term adaptability. Environment configuration and permissions were managed programmatically to prevent drift between development and production systems.

The Impact

Manual invoice triggers were eliminated, materially reducing revenue leakage and administrative burden. Billing cadence became predictable and consistent.

Finance gained near real-time reporting capability, improving visibility and decision-making. Customer support demand related to billing discrepancies decreased. Customers gained transparency through self-service access to usage and invoices.

The platform now scales to support both SME and enterprise accounts without structural redesign.
