The organisation was reliant on a legacy invoice verification platform layered onto its enterprise systems. Over time, the platform became increasingly expensive to maintain, difficult to adapt, and architecturally constrained. Performance strain and vendor dependency introduced operational and financial risk.
Flowmoco was engaged to design and implement a modern, distributed verification platform capable of replacing the legacy system without disrupting live billing operations.
The Challenge
Wholesale billing systems operate under sustained load. Large volumes of structured telecom data must be validated with precision. Even small discrepancies can compound quickly, creating revenue leakage, audit exposure, and disputes with wholesale partners.
The existing verification system was centralised and slow to evolve. Scaling under peak demand required disproportionate effort, and changes were mediated through external suppliers. Incremental optimisation was no longer viable. The business required a structural reset rather than a patch.
At the same time, there was zero tolerance for downtime. Any transition needed to preserve continuity across finance, operations, and partner integrations.
The Solution
A cloud-native, distributed architecture was designed to process invoice data at telecom scale with resilience and determinism.
The new platform separates data ingestion from processing to ensure information is secured before transformation begins. Distributed computation enables horizontal scaling under peak load, while container orchestration provides automated recovery and resilience. Indexed retrieval supports efficient validation workflows.
The system was introduced in parallel with the legacy platform. Continuous reconciliation and validation ensured full functional parity before final cutover. This phased approach eliminated disruption to live billing flows and reduced migration risk.
The Impact
The legacy verification platform was successfully decommissioned, removing substantial recurring licence exposure. Invoice validation accuracy was restored, and processing throughput increased through distributed execution.
Infrastructure now scales in line with workload, reducing idle overhead while maintaining resilience during periods of peak demand.
Beyond cost reduction, the architecture provides long-term flexibility. The platform is capable of supporting future analytics, automation, and regulatory requirements without structural redesign.
